Semantic Calculus & 'Virspeak' Explained (continued from the 'Wats 'Dis? page)
Semantic Calculus is a method of linguistics I am creating to help effectively communicate concepts in the Viridian REVELution REFORMance Art work. It is also a set of linguistic rules related to semantics. All terms are being collected in the "Semantic Calculus Dictionary" The resulting words may later comprise a vocabulary of 'VirSpeak' (Viridian Speak'). These words are basically a set of neologisms that conform to a set of rules. The name 'Semantic Calculus' describes the reasons & methodology I use in its creation . Whereby 'semantics is the study of meaning & changes of meaning of words & 'calculus' the branch of mathematics that deals with limits, differentiation & the integration of functions of one or more variables, my methodology is to apply these systems of thought to the fusion of words into single words so that their integration produces an exponentially more powerful meaning than the words used on their own. The intent is multifold. As calculus is also A method of analysis using special symbolic notations, I intend for the word combinations to cultivate deeper contemplation in the reading process. The philosopher Nietzsche examined the importance of a meditative state for readers who wish to integrate higher levels of meaning from texts intended to evoke spiritual, mystical and/or the higher intelligence states necessary for individual consciousness expansion. Consciousness expansion is here equated to reaching more deeply integrated orders of neurological function (i.e. getting more & more parts of the brain to work together for the sake of self & others; to promote growth / pleasure & avoid fear / pain.	My hope is that some of the words created for 'Virspeak' can eventually begin to trigger integral brain functions because of the inherent power of the word fusions. As Calculus is also a method of analysis using a special symbolic notation. So it is also my plan to form some of these words into the symbols suggested by their fusion so that a sort of economy of words & language can eventually be reached. Similarly, I hope to formulate the economy of the words needed to communicate complex ideas through word combinations themselves. The envisioned outcome is a new sort of shorthand (or should I call it "shortHead") for communicating complex findings from human endeavors in science, spirituality & metaphysics with as few annunciations or squiggles on screens (and, these days, to a lesser extent, squiggles on paper).. Thus saving breath, eyes, paper & the electricity to power those screens. Primarily the intent is to communicate complex subjects more succinctly & hopefully, more effectively. When I came up with the 'semantic Calculus idea, funnel diagrams I associate from my past readings of semanticists Korzybski & J. Samuel Bois came to mind. So I ask readers to think of a funnel placed din their ear that is filled with many words when they come across a 'Semantic Calculus" word, because it's my intention to pour the multiplied meanings of the fused words into the readers brain when I combine them. Whenever you see a term on this site that appears in this font, you can click on it to be taken to it's entry in the Semantic Calculus dictionary.
